Kinship
Piece Description
Medium: Computer Animation
Dimensions: 13.75” by 9.48”
This piece explores the relationship between humans and other animal species. “Kinship” was inspired by poaching and the damage it has done to both animal species and ecosystems alike. “Kinship” confronts the self-entitlement of humans, which is reflected in their actions as we are the only species to take and not give back, upsetting the natural balance of life. The purpose of this piece is to show the imbalance in our relationship with other animals in order for us to correct our behavior and mindset, and be more conscious of our actions moving forwards. I chose to display this piece as a hologram to show how detached we have made animals become. People no longer view them as creatures who we share the Earth with, but as ideas. We put them on display and treat them as mere spectacle with no real substance. With Kinship, I hope to drive home the current imbalance between species, and the need to be more conscious about how we interact with and treat others, human or not.
